This Holiday Is Not About Gifts or Resolutions

This Holiday Season is Not About Gifts or Resolutions Contemporary SeekerThis holiday season isn’t about presents and resolutions; it’s about the people – love, hope, health, renewal and peace.

The Prelude

I nearly lost both parents to heart attacks (six months apart) this year past. I never imagined that could even happen; both having heart attacks, let alone just months apart.

They appeared healthy – not overweight, active, and full of life despite the aches and pains of aging.

Cherish Each Moment as if It’s The Last

It was a stark reminder that heart attacks can happen to anyone, and you’re never prepared for them, ever.

Further, that we never know when it will be our last moment with someone and to take care to cherish every moment.

Upon Reflection

It’s much easier to share, now, since the hardest part is behind us.

Yet, watching and helping through their pain and rehab broke my heart time and again.

I often wondered how many times and how many ways can a heart break?

Fighters they are; they’re still here with us, God bless.

Other immediate family endured operations and hospitalizations this year. It often seemed we couldn’t catch a break.

I faced my own health challenges, yet I could pay no mind.

It was just instinct – my only care was that they all lived. So I was there with them every step of the way.

My body took its own hits, but never would I have had it any other way.

I love them so; and they me, of course. I’m blessed to know love like this.

Now I See

Now I see everything differently.

There is Melody Jean before this year, and Melody Jean after.

No going back, I am forever changed.

Life will never be the same, nor do I want it to be.

Perspective is everything sometimes.

The Order of Chaos

From chaos comes order, my dad always says.

So this year, no, it’s not about resolutions or monetary gifts.

It’s about the people – love, hope, health, renewal and peace.
